It’s that Simple

1

Set the date

We work with NNEP members all day long, day after day.  Our purpose – to help members of NNEP to be more profitable, to move their businesses forward, to overcome what ever is standing in the way of their success. We are often asked a question that looks boils down to this, “How do I get there from here?”

You have the vision of what you want, yet…

We hear again and again that you are WAITING – for that perfect time, perfect moment of clarity to take the leap of faith to really go for it with your business. So many business owners hold a belief that there is some secret that you do not yet know, and that with that knowledge, success would be guaranteed. With this elusive bit of something you have not yet discovered or experienced, success is inevitable.

Well, I am here to tell you differently. The real deal is that taking that leap to success is  much more mundane, even ordinary.  All you have to do is set a goal and tie a date to it and write it down on your calendar.

The moment you proactively make that leap from your mind to your calendar – THAT is your moment of commitment. Getting started is that simple!

Set goals that will get you where you want to go.

  • X number of  customers by end of month
  • X number of new orders by the 31st
  • Call X number of past customers to check in each week
  • Launch basic website by 15th
  • Create X number of new designs by the 5th
  • Buy new machine by Dec. 31, 2013.

Whatever you want to accomplish, break it down into bite-size pieces and get them on your calendar. And then GO for it! Actively spend time each day doing whatever you need to in order to make that goal by that date. Skip that hour on facebook, that 2 hours of tv time if necessary. Your success is the DIRECT result of your decisions, your efforts, your choices of what you do with your time.

There are plenty of people that will tell you you cannot do it, stick to what you know, why bother and all sorts of other negative statements. Here’s the good news – it is YOUR life, and you get to decide what you want to do with it!

I’ll start the ball rolling:

  • I will have the new Embroidery Mart-COLUMBUS website created and registration open by October 25, 2013.

What are you going to do?  Add your goal and date below in the comments, and get it on your calendar as well! Let’s DO THIS!

Thriving with Stress training for NNEP members

0

We are very excited to announce a webinar for NNEP members on 9/10/13 at 10:30 AM EST – Thriving with Stress, presented by Dr. Frank Wood.

We just emailed NNEP members an invitation to this special event.  I have wrestled this very smart man into doing some stress management training for NNEP members.  He is offering a webinar on TUESDAY, 9/10 at 10:30 AM EST for 24 NNEP members (I am claiming the 25th spot, just be be clear – this guy is really, really good!).

Here is a bit more info about the training, from Dr. Frank Wood, the above mentioned very smart guy:

Please accept this invitation for those in the National Network of Embroidery Professionals to Thriving with Stress: An Overview.

As we discussed, Thriving with Stress is being called a game changer with stress. Howard Thompson, VP of Purchasing with Macy’s told me, “I recently had the opportunity to see Dr. Wood turn 60 minutes into a mini personal empowerment session to help a group of business owners and executives begin to turn the tables on stress.”

I invite you and the members of NNEP to join this webinar overview on stress in which I will share a couple of things:

1)  The impact or cost of stress – amazingly stress is reported to cost US businesses more than $300 Billion annually … more in the webinar on the impact/cost issue.

2) The framework on stress – this will offer a perspective on how stress works.

3) An example that will teach, through experience, how stress feels and how it can get in the way of effective performance.

4) Some biology on stress where I will share a little on the fight or flight response (human wiring) and a little on a part of the brain that becomes overactive during times of stress.

5) Finally, I will open the webinar for questions.

A bit about the Thriving with Stress program – it is a 4 week program that more fully unpacks stress and teaches practical tools that empowers those who learn and apply the tools to more effectively respond rather than react in times of stress.

Details

- The overview webinar is scheduled for September 10, 2013 at 10:30 AM

- The webinar will be held on webex (free to use it, just sign up using the sent to NNEP members by email)

- I will be asking for some feedback and so  would appreciate it if those who attend would use computers that have microphones … if not, there is an ability to communicate via a chat feature (so all are welcome)

- I will start promptly at 10:30 and conclude at 11:30 AM, EST.

- I will be taping the webinar and will forward a taped copy to you for delivery to other NNEP members who were not able to participate in the webinar on 9/10/13, since it is limited to 25 people in the live session.

For those interested, I will offer a discounted Thriving with Stress program (the 4 week program) to NNEP members. And if there is interest, I am open to offering periodic webinars for your members.

With respect,

Frank

Sending New Customers to NNEP Members

Money on Target

Another good day here at NNEP!  We just sent an email to NNEP members with details about a customer looking for an embroiderer that can do their order for at least three  dozen shirts with embroidery and rhinestone designs.

And the very best part?  The customer needs to place this order for this quantity (or more) several times a year!  Now that is a customer to get excited about.  We sent all the details including the customer’s contact information to current NNEP members.  The customer is happy because they have a great selection of contract shops that they can now use.  NNEP members are happy as they have a chance to develop a long term customer. This is my favorite kind of win-win referral!

If you want to get HOT leads emailed to you on a regular basis, join NNEP today!  We’d love to help you grow your dream business with great opportunities like this one.

NNEP Wonders – Are You Relying On BAD Profits?

0

We are pleased to offer you insights from business expert Steve Wilkinghoff, author of the bestselling book, Found Money – Simple Strategies to Uncover the Hidden Profit and Cash Flow in Your Business.  And we are excited because we have convinced him to present a webinar for NNEP members on January 8, 2013!

Get a feel for Steve and his approach to growing a profitable business in the following guest post:

Are You Relying On BAD Profits?

There seems to be increasing competition everywhere these days.  The first reaction most business owners have to competition is that it’s a bad thing.  But what if the increase is a simply a sign that the market is growing – more people interested in harnessing the power of promotional items to improve their business?

As any market grows, there is room for more participants.  And the overall growth results in an increase in the total potential customers in the market.  That means you’ve got even more room for you to produce better financial results.

But there is a caveat to that statement.  No matter how many customers you may attract, you won’t produce better (which includes more stable) financial results if you have been relying on BAD profits.

What is a BAD profit?  Is there such a thing?

To steal a line from that famous movie (and since it is the Christmas season), Yes, Virginia, there really is a BAD profit.

BAD profits are incredibly dangerous to the long-term health of your business.  Dangerous because they often one of the biggest contributors to sub-optimal, and unpredictable financial results.

BAD profits are created by customers that, even though they are currently buying your services, are either not fully satisfied, or simply feel like they aren’t being fully appreciated.

That type of customer creates BAD profits for your business, not because there is anything wrong with them, but because there’s something wrong with your business.  The profits from these customers are only short-term.  They can (actually, they will) literally disappear overnight if a new competitor (or old competitor) comes up with a unique way of making them feel valued.

BAD profits are an axe hanging over your business.  And the axe is being held up by a thread.  The slightest bump (a new competitor, a new move from an existing competitor, and any other disturbance in the market or the economy) and the axe falls.  When the axe falls you see your business and your profits quickly chopped into a much smaller entity.

BAD profits are easy to ignore.  It’s easy to make yourself busy dealing with the customers who phone in, walk in, and currently buy from you.

But it’s hard to stop and ask yourself if any of your current customers are at risk of leaving.  Leaving because a new competitor arrives or an existing competitor makes some new moves in your market.

Sooner, or later, however you will be forced to recognize any BAD profits your business is currently creating.  When something happens that encourages those customers to leave your business for another one, you will start to see your financial results suffer.  And then, if you haven’t thought about them before, you will be forced to look at your BAD profits.  The problem is that, when you are forced to look at BAD profits (once you’ve already lost the customers and profits) it’s too late to do anything about them.  Both the customers and the profits are gone.

That’s usually when the blame game starts.  Common comments that indicate you’ve been hurt by BAD profits include, “We just can’t compete with the big guys”, or “Customers don’t appreciate what we do anymore”, or my favorite, “All people care about these days is a low price.”

So don’t ignore BAD profits in your business.  Don’t wait around until you are forced to consider them.  Instead take a look at your customers and your business right now.

Ask yourself the hard question.  Do you have customers who are just waiting for something better to come along?  If you are like most business owners your honest answer will be “yes”.

And that’s not really a problem.  Just don’t ignore it.  Develop some tactics and an action plan to deal with any of your BAD profits today.  You never know when you will be forced to do it otherwise.
