We work with NNEP members all day long, day after day. Our purpose – to help members of NNEP to be more profitable, to move their businesses forward, to overcome what ever is standing in the way of their success. We are often asked a question that looks boils down to this, “How do I get there from here?”
You have the vision of what you want, yet…
We hear again and again that you are WAITING – for that perfect time, perfect moment of clarity to take the leap of faith to really go for it with your business. So many business owners hold a belief that there is some secret that you do not yet know, and that with that knowledge, success would be guaranteed. With this elusive bit of something you have not yet discovered or experienced, success is inevitable.
Well, I am here to tell you differently. The real deal is that taking that leap to success is much more mundane, even ordinary. All you have to do is set a goal and tie a date to it and write it down on your calendar.
The moment you proactively make that leap from your mind to your calendar – THAT is your moment of commitment. Getting started is that simple!
Set goals that will get you where you want to go.
- X number of customers by end of month
- X number of new orders by the 31st
- Call X number of past customers to check in each week
- Launch basic website by 15th
- Create X number of new designs by the 5th
- Buy new machine by Dec. 31, 2013.
Whatever you want to accomplish, break it down into bite-size pieces and get them on your calendar. And then GO for it! Actively spend time each day doing whatever you need to in order to make that goal by that date. Skip that hour on facebook, that 2 hours of tv time if necessary. Your success is the DIRECT result of your decisions, your efforts, your choices of what you do with your time.
There are plenty of people that will tell you you cannot do it, stick to what you know, why bother and all sorts of other negative statements. Here’s the good news – it is YOUR life, and you get to decide what you want to do with it!

Well, what can I say – apparently I/we here at NNEP have to learn some lessons the hard way. The lesson I learned the hard way recently is that if you are traveling with your computer or iPad, there are steps you should take before you even leave to protect yourself, should anything happen to your computer while you are traveling.
- Write down the serial numbers of all of your computers, smart tablets, devices and cell phones – have this information some where OTHER than on the devices themselves! It is one of the first things the police will ask you for should your device be stolen! Without the serial number, they really have no way of identifying YOUR device if it is found.
- If you are leaving your device somewhere and you will not be present, invest in the cables to attach it to something. There are all kinds of these cables available – click this link to amazon.com to see some of the zillions of options.
- Consider investing in a motion sensor alarm for your device. If someone moves it, even bumps it, it will go off unless the right code is entered.
- Consider installing the LoJack software. According the police in Nashville, this has been one of the most effective tools they’ve seen for recovering stolen computers. Click this link to view LoJack options on amazon.com.

We just emailed NNEP members an invitation to this special event. I have wrestled this very smart man into doing some stress management training for NNEP members. He is offering a webinar on TUESDAY, 9/10 at 10:30 AM EST for 24 NNEP members (I am claiming the 25th spot, just be be clear – this guy is really, really good!).

As we discussed, Thriving with Stress is being called a game changer with stress. Howard Thompson, VP of Purchasing with Macy’s told me, “I recently had the opportunity to see Dr. Wood turn 60 minutes into a mini personal empowerment session to help a group of business owners and executives begin to turn the tables on stress.”
I invite you and the members of NNEP to join this webinar overview on stress in which I will share a couple of things:
1) The impact or cost of stress – amazingly stress is reported to cost US businesses more than $300 Billion annually … more in the webinar on the impact/cost issue.
2) The framework on stress – this will offer a perspective on how stress works.
3) An example that will teach, through experience, how stress feels and how it can get in the way of effective performance.
4) Some biology on stress where I will share a little on the fight or flight response (human wiring) and a little on a part of the brain that becomes overactive during times of stress.
5) Finally, I will open the webinar for questions.
A bit about the Thriving with Stress program – it is a 4 week program that more fully unpacks stress and teaches practical tools that empowers those who learn and apply the tools to more effectively respond rather than react in times of stress.
- The overview webinar is scheduled for September 10, 2013 at 10:30 AM
- The webinar will be held on webex (free to use it, just sign up using the sent to NNEP members by email)
- I will be asking for some feedback and so would appreciate it if those who attend would use computers that have microphones … if not, there is an ability to communicate via a chat feature (so all are welcome)
- I will start promptly at 10:30 and conclude at 11:30 AM, EST.
- I will be taping the webinar and will forward a taped copy to you for delivery to other NNEP members who were not able to participate in the webinar on 9/10/13, since it is limited to 25 people in the live session.
For those interested, I will offer a discounted Thriving with Stress program (the 4 week program) to NNEP members. And if there is interest, I am open to offering periodic webinars for your members.

It was fun doing a podcast* about Embroidery Mart this morning with Terry Combs and Aaron Montgomery. They host an show on the internet called “2 Regular Guys.” They chat about anything and everything in or connected to the decorated apparel industries.
*If you are new to the term “podcast,” here is the wiki:
a type of digital media consisting of an episodic series of audio radio, video, PDF, or ePub files subscribed to and downloaded through web syndication or streamed online to a computer or mobile device. The word is a neologism derived from “broadcast” and “pod” from the success of the iPod, as audio podcasts are often listened to on portable media players.
In people-speak, a podcast is a radio show that is broadcast live on the internet rather than through airwaves like traditional radio shows. Because it IS digital, is is available AFTER the live event, as well as during the live event. Click on the image above to hear the interview.
